Here’s how to make the BEST Snickerdoodles… ever.
Yesterday was my Dad’s birthday – HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!
A few years ago he went through chemo and radiation and in the process, his taste buds changed. Therefore, many of the foods he once loved, tasted different or bad. Given this, he’s learned to love more plain and simple foods. Enter the BEST Snickerdoodle.
Growing up, I don’t really remember him particularly loving Snickerdoodles. However, since having one at a Farmer’s Market over the summer, he’s become a big fan.
I wanted to surprise him with a box of big, soft, chewy Snickerdoodles. Because, what’s better, right?
Luckily, I came upon Modern Honey’s recipe, which looked a lot better than a recipe I used to use. These are light but buttery cookies that are dusted with the perfect balance of cinnamon and sugar. This recipe gave me soft Snickerdoodles for days. While my older recipe had a great flavor, they’d turned to hockey pucks quickly. Regardless of the recipe, Snickerdoodles should be stored in an airtight container or gallon-sized Ziploc bag.
Tips for Butter in Snickerdoodles
It’s incredibly important to make sure your butter is room temperature. While I’ve found tricks claiming to quickly turn cold butter into room-temperature butter, they typically yield a subpar result. In my experience, the most accurate trick is to to cut up the butter into small pieces so it gets to room-temperature faster. But really, there is no substitute for butter slowly coming to room-temperature. Warming it gives it a melted consistency which won’t fluff up with sugar the same way. That said, cutting up the butter will yield the correct consistency.
Cinnamon in Snickerdoodles
Any Cinnamon works well, but I came across Vietnamese Cinnamon at the store and it piqued my curiosity. I’ve used it on everything I can; french toast, cocktails, cinnamon-sugar toast and now Snickerdoodles. It’s more potent, a lot goes a long way and it’s bold flavor is extremely aromatic. It’s always fun to play with different versions of the same ingredient. Sometimes subtle changes make all the difference.

My dad couldn’t believe how outstanding they were. I was thrilled. Snickerdoodles make a thoughtful birthday gift, house warming gift, or even a nice surprise.
Even my husband – a self-described “chocoholic” snuck two for “breakfast dessert” – cue eye roll.
